Fortitude

Dug out a piece I wrote a couple of years back...never fails to lift me up when I am feeling down...sharing this with the world now...enjoy...

Fortitude

The mind is tired, the body weary,
From the toils of the day, I feel dreary.
What day is it I ask? For I have lost count,
The end of the tunnel seems out of bounds.
But I trudge along, straighten my shoulders,
Ready to remove the next boulder.

This is somewhere I have been,
This is a place I have seen…

The back is bent, the collar soiled,
The sole hurts, the soul spurned.
Undaunted, I rescue an escaping smile,
I nurture it, as I chart the next mile.
Will this journey end, I wonder,
It will, I see the light over yonder.

This is somewhere I have been,
This is a place I have seen…

I pick up the pace, time is precious,
I can smell the wafts, filling my senses.
I feel strangely rejuvenated, in confusion,
Am I getting there? Or is this an illusion?
The journey has been tough, but rewarding,
Perhaps this is it, or am I dreaming?

Is this somewhere I have been?
Is this the place I have seen?

Sweet are the smells, so they say,
Stop a while, savour the moment if you may.
‘tis a habit, I am told,
You need to believe, you need to be bold.
I strain to recognise, this place in my dreams,
Like the back of my hand, it would seem.

Is this somewhere I have been?
Is this the place I have seen?

I take a deep breath, exhale,
Look around, reflect on my tale.
This moment is breathing its last,
Where to, from here, I ask?
I’ve quenched this thirst, I gave it my best,
I journey on to another tunnel, another quest.

This is somewhere I have been,
This is a place I have seen…
